What to Do for Your Child While They are Teething

If you are a parent, you probably know that teething can be a very difficult time. Usually, your little one’s first tooth will erupt when they’re somewhere between four and six months old. Teeth will usually continue to break through the gums until they’re about two years old. Unfortunately, teething can be uncomfortable and painful, but there are several things you can do to make the experience easier on your child.

One of the first things you should consider doing is giving your child something to bite on. Your child can bite on a teething ring or a cold waffle to help with their pain. If your child is teething and bites down onto something cold, their tissue will break down, which helps your little one’s teeth erupt more easily. Teething rings will also numb their gums, leaving your baby even more comfortable.

Another option you can consider is a store bought medication. These medications, which are usually in the form of gels, can numb the eruption site. However, please don’t use too much of this numbing gel as doing so can actually numb your child’s entire mouth. If you want a different option, vanilla extract may help.

Lastly, if your children’s teeth are erupting, you may need to take some extra steps to peak your little one’s interest in eating and drinking. You see, chewing solid foods could be painful for a child teething, but they may be willing to eat soft foods. You may also want to consider flavoring your little one’s water to help them drink more. You could also make your child more comfortable by distracting them with videos or by playing with them.
