Over the course of the past two decades, dental implant technology and techniques have continued to evolve. Now they can also be used to implant multiple anchor points to help lock your removable dentures in place.
Even though your new denture implants and and locking hardware are made from materials that are not subject to tooth decay, they will still need regular cleaning as part of your oral hygiene routine. If plaque isn’t thoroughly cleaned from the anchor points it can harden into tartar, which promotes gum disease. Left unchecked gum disease can, compromise the bone structure that holds the titanium denture implants in place.
When you take your dentures out each night you should rinse away all the plaque and brush them with a soft bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. You should also rinse the locking hardware to clean away any residual plaque.
During your regular dental check up, Dr. Jacob Shrayman will inspect and clean away any tartar from the denture implant anchors. If there is a little wear and tear on the dentures or locking hardware he can adjust it or order replacements.
