How to Protect Your Smile From Plaque

Plaque is a dangerous, destructive substance that can completely harm your smile if you let it. The most common dental issues that can occur are tooth decay and gum disease, and the best thing you can do for your smile and oral health is fight plaque growth each day. Our Jacob Shrayman, DDS team recommends doing so by:

· Keeping up on oral hygiene: It’s very important that you brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash. As you do these things, please remember to use fluoride toothpaste, fluoride or antibacterial mouthwash, and a soft-bristled toothbrush. These tools will properly clean, care for, and nourish your smile every day.

· Having a balanced diet: Sugar and carbohydrates tend to harm your teeth and aid in plaque growth. So, the best thing you can do is limit the consumption of these products.

· Visiting your dentist: Dental cleanings are extremely important, especially because they are the only way to completely remove the plaque from your chompers. So, do your best to stay up to date with your cleanings every six months.

· Replacing your toothbrush: Make sure you replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. Brushing with a new-and-improved brush will help you properly clean your chompers each day, removing the plaque that threatens your smile.

Plaque is a white, sticky film that clings to your teeth, which makes it difficult to notice. So, please make sure you do these things even if you don’t see the plaque on your chompers.
